Vagabonds: Character Page Empty Corvus

Post  Roxvert13 Fri Jun 24, 2016 4:00 am

Name: Corvus Clereonesis
Race: Strix
Class: Wizard
Age: 29
Height: 5’6
Weight: 140
Occupation: On the lamb/Aspiring Magic shop owner
Languages: Common, Syrinx, Draconic

Physical Description: Corvus stands shorter than most with shoulder length, raven-black hair.  He is a pale, thin man with outward pointing, pointed ears. his hands and feet are black and fade to white about the wrists and ankles. Under his bulky robes he has a set of black wings that shine with a midnight blue, like his hair. His eyes are larger than human eyes and the color of the night sky, complete with tiny motes of silver. Like a bird he has to turn his head to look at things, his eyes are set in there sockets and unable to rotate. Corvus hardly has a nose to speak of and his nostrils are long and slitted. Corvus has skinny legs and arms from disuse, yet his core, back, shoulders and chest are surprisingly muscular from flight. The winged wizard has a wingspan of nearly 11 feet. While trying to blend in to cities and go unnoticed, Corvus dons a wide brimmed leather traveling hat that he enchanted to subtly alter his appearance to that of a human, however his wings are not effected by the illusion and he hides them under a large, storm cloud colored cloak. This give him the appearance of having a hunched back or stoop.
Corvus wears a set of specially designed, multi layered robes that allow his wings the maneuverability needed for flight. He carries a bag slung across his chest, this bag acts as a minor bag of holding able to hold 6 cubic feet of material. Corvus’s most valued possession is his stolen spell book. The spell book is made of a deep blue scaled leather that has mystic runes tooled into it, and its corners, edges, and spine are covered by stylized silver dragons. There are two 2 foot long silver chains attached to either end of the spine, these chains look like necklace chain and attach to themselves after being wrapped around it. Corvus attached the book to his belt, on the left hip. This magnificent book is an artifact and has a library of magical knowledge and increases the amount of spells a mage can prepare from its vast collection. The Unending Tome contains all spells except those from the schools of Enchantment and Illusion (magics of mind alteration).

Past and Present: Corvus was born in a city high in the southern mountains called Arcadia. This was a city controlled by a race of scholarly owl-like people called the Syrinx. The Syrinx came from a past of barbarism and have, as a culture, taken to pursuits of the mind of achievements of a martial nature. Their inclination toward knowledge has done little to detract from their evil beginnings. Arcadia has a strict hierarchy with the Syrinx being the ruling and nobel classes, the Strix were under the Syrinx and worked as slave herders, low-end artisans and warriors, and a large population of slaves. Every winged creature in Arcadia viewed itself as vastly superior to any non-winged, the slur for such a creature translates in common to Groundling.
Corvus was the product of experimentation by a Syrinx arcanist named Ga’hool. Ga’hool came from a long, proud line of mages that created many powerful spells and other achievements. one such ancestor was responsible for the creation of the Strix. Ga’hool was trying to breed a longer lasting, less aggressive Strix by replicating his ancestor’s experiment using an elf. These initial experiments were a complete failure, none survived to term. Humans proved to be as much a failure as the elves did. The driven arcanist pondered over his dilemma for many days until he stumbled upon his solution when a half-elf slave caught his attention. Ga’hool tried his experiments again and produced 3 babies out of his attempted 30. 2 of these babies died of complications before they were a month old and the third was frail and small. The arcanist considered disposing of the mewling runt but ordered it cared for by servants and slaves. The young experiment was seen to have a strong curiosity and a sharp wit, Ga’hool followed another of his whims and took to teaching the two-toned child wizardry. However, the mage grew tired of the lessons and hired a tutor to do the job. After the child completed his wizarding training he was awarded with a name, Corvus Clereonesis. He was also given a magic ring, a ring designed to give Ga’hool complete control over Corvus whenever he so chose.
Ga’hool put his new mage-slave to work immediately scribing scrolls to be sold at Ga’hool’s magic emporium. Corvus was allowed to continue studying magic, but his master made certain he was learning to make better, more unique magical items.
The two-toned mage spent many years in study and toil, until a particularly large band of goblins, orcs, bugbears, and ogres menaced Arcadia on the summer of Corvus’s 19th year. He really didn't partake of the fight to much, his master used him as an auxiliary supply of protection and enhancing magic. Ga’hool took much joy at the destruction his magic wrought, Corvus felt a strange mixture of pride and revulsion at seeing his own magic thwart and turn aside missiles targeting his master. The Arcadians made quick work of the invaders through the use of cunning magical assaults and traps mixed with the deadly lances and arrows of the Strix, the entire campaign lasted three days with minimal losses on the Arcadian side. But then again, Arcadians didn't consider slaves as people and so they were used as fodder for the hoard. Many slaves were destroyed by the magical blasts of a master who didn't care how many slaves got caught in a spell if at least a few orcs died. Discontent was palpable among the lower castes. Five years after the battle against the horde the slaves revolted. On that day Corvus was awakened by his master and compelled to study spells of war, this forced period of study in Ga’hool’s family library was interrupted by a group of slaves breaking down the door. The explosive wards on the door reduced the first few renegades to charred husks, but enraged the rest of the disorganized rabble. Ga’hool used his formidable magical prowess to blast a good portion of slaves from existence, the rest fled in terror. The confident owl mage began ordering Corvus around and payed no heed to the patrol of Strix that entered the library. When Ga’hool turned to address the patrol he was met with a sword. He threw out his arm instinctively and it was severed halfway up the forearm. As the group of Strix began hacking at Ga’hool, Corvus stopped feeling the oppressive will of his master and cast a cantrip to call his master’s severed hand to him. He then used the taloned appendage to remove the slave ring from his own finger. Corvus then ran for a large window and spotted a tome of blue leather with silver along the edges, he grabbed it and made his escape.
Corvus has been running ever since, he began running much faster after reading the tome and coming to understand its immeasurable worth. The dark winged wizard is currently working his way north, offering his services as a spell caster to those with the coin to pay for his magic. Corvus tried to offer his services to a magic crafter guilds or stores, but no one would hire him without references. So the wizard earned enough coin to make his trip to the next town, where he would earn enough gold to fund his next trip, over and over. He managed to get the materials needed to create his hat pretty quickly and eventually managed to save enough gold to enchant his satchel.

Vagabonds: Character Page Empty Lynn Carimna

Post  Awesoma Wed Jun 29, 2016 4:01 am

Name:Lynn Carimna, Favored Blade, The Steel Lightning
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Age: 26
Height: 5'10
Weight: 160
Occupation: Wandering Fighter
Languages: Common
Physical Description: Lynn is a woman who has faced many battles in her short life and her body reflects that. She is tall and muscular while still remaining lean. Her body is dotted with small nicks and scars from a life of fighting and training. Lynn has deep red hair/auburn hair that she she keeps shoulder length, occasionally tying it into a ponytail. She has a very defined face with high cheekbones and sharp jawline deep set eyes and a strong brow bordering masculine. But at rare times when her guard is down her more feminine features shine through her rough exterior.

She wears a slate blue blouse underneath her armor. Her armor consists of a helmet/headdress that covers her forehead and temples as well as the back of her head, two pauldrens fitted over chain sheets that draped down her biceps, gauntlets that protecting her hands, a small breastplate similar to half plate which covers a battle dress of partially armored segments, leading down to boots. Ideally this armor set up is designed to give her freedom of movement while protecting her vital areas. She also has a thin choker around her neck with segments that are missing pieces with an exception to a gold hand icon placed upon her pulse.

Lynn carries a hand and a half sword with a large guard as her primary weapon. She also carries a short thrusting sword with her with a guard that is upturned for catching weapons and small arms use. She relies on her swordsmanship and armor to parry most damage.

Past and Present : Lynn comes from a land of small kingdoms and principalities called Anatolia more specifically the small kingdom of Lautrec. Lautrec is known for its smithing work and relies on the surrounding kingdoms for many resources. However, the land of Anatolia is one of conflict between the states and while they all trade with one another there is a near constant skirmishing between the kingdoms. This way of life is tolerated because they people think this fighting keeps their nation strong and if a foreign power threatens them they band together into a force to be reckoned with. While the skirmishing is tolerated if a dispute becomes disruptive to the land the Exemplar is summoned to take control of the other states and forces peace. When not defending the land from outside threats and internal strife the Exemplar is a member of The Court of Five, the other members being The Divine, a ranking member of the religion of the area, The Warrior, a fighter of some renown typically picked from the Court's Favored Blades (more on that later), The Mother a matron of a noble family, The Outsider a person from outside the land of Anatolia to give a true opinion for the land. The protectors and the agents of the Court of Five are the Favored Blades, people who have proven themselves worthy on the battlefield to enforce the bidding of the Court. There is no set number of Favored Blade at any given time and at the moment of Lynn's life there are nine, of which she is one of.
Lynn grew up a fighter in Lautrec which is common place in Anatolia for women and men are expected to heed the call to battle. She showed enormous promise and was sent at an early age to train under Roland the Elder, a Favored Blade. Lynn fought with a reckless abandon always discarding her shield to disarm or subdue her opponent with her superior speed and skill. As such she gravitated towards a large sword with a guard that was angled upward to catch blades in. She was given the nickname The Steel Lightning as a testament to her fighting style and personality as she always had a quick resolve and never wavered from a decision. During a particularly hard battle with an invading hoard of hobgoblins she chose to hold a critical point into her country with a few other brave men and women to try and buy time for more troops to arrive. Not long into the fight she and her comrades were overwhelmed until another warrior arrived. Shining with their own brilliant light the new warrior gave new life into Lynn and her comrades. The battle was won and Lynn's life was changed forever. After the battle she was given the title of a Favored Blade but her mind was elsewhere. She sought audience with the strange warrior that had saved her in battle. After a time she was seen wearing an icon of a gold hand around her neck and spent time in the divine records doing research. Lynn had found a quest that she must complete and so she has forsaken her country and titles, breaking her oaths and leaving her people to go on her journey. The Court of Five has declared her an outlaw and an oathbreaker. They have demanded Lynn answer for her crimes back in Anatolia and as such has begun to send her comrades the other Favored Blades after her. Now Lynn seeks the warrior that she is willing to sacrifice everything for or die fighting.

He was awarded a noble birth and little else. The third child of a prestigious family in it's waning years, he knew love for only a few fleeting moments before his family turned against him in favor of their ailed first born. They cursed their gods for the fever that was taking their eldest, the son who they had put all of their hopes of rebirthed relevance in, and allowed themselves to be swayed by darker forces.

A clergyman came to them claiming to be a herald of Spectre-Yus-Rah-Di, an imprisoned demon fooling people desperate enough to believe that he was a god, and his family leapt at the opportunity. All it would cost was their new third son. A stranger in their house. Fodder for their favorite child.

The ritual, however, failed. Just as the dagger was to plunge into the blood sacrifice, a band of adventurers interrupted the demonic ceremony. They saved the boy and brought him far away East where this ritualistic magic originated. The holy men claimed him stained. Marked. Tainted. But they chose to take the child.

Years passed and many lessons were learned. He shed both family name and influence and was awarded the name Donovan for his quick to tan skin and the dark mark upon his belly that proof enough he was still imbued with terrible magic. On his 12th birthday the holy men professed the truth to him and the reasons they had taken him into their tutelage. When Donovan is finally slain, the mark on his belly would tear open the door to Specre-Yus-Rah-Di prison and many would perish.

From that moment Donovan locked himself away, terrified not of being harmed but the harm being harmed would bring. He took the the library to find a cure but found nothing. However he did find stories of monks in very advanced years. He read about ageless dragons and elder elves. And he read about immortal deities and gods. It was that moment that he decided he would fight to survive, and he would survive indefinitely.

Countless years later and now known for his wander good deeds, Donovan is known by most as Blackbelly, the Marked Monk, the Branded Sage, and by fewer he is known as Doorkeeper, Jailer, Warden. He spends the majority of his time travelling under the beating hot sun.

He is best compared to the leather clad journal he often takes note in, his skin cracked and tanned, betraying a storied life. The top of his head is noticeably blacker than the rest of his swarthy hide, a pronounced dark circle. His teeth and eyes are yellow, and often his eyelids and lips are peeled back exposing them completely. He is very thin from his refusal to rest when traveling, but when his journey requires he stops he will often fill out considerably. He will perform many good deeds during this respites but will take no money, only food. He likes food.

Donovan is simply traveling to learn life extending secrets. If he dies he knows countless people will join him or worse. He hopes to become immortal under any circumstances necessary.

(I'm posting this now. I'll re-write it someday but I'm bad at summaries and just want to keep re-doing it over and over and over. But I'm tired of writing it now.)
